RUSSIA RELEASES NEW SINGLE-DOSE COVID-19 VACCINE SPUTNIK LIGHT: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

Russia made headlines last year when it introduced and registered the first COVID-19 vaccine called Sputnik V. But many viewed it with suspicion, as the vaccine had not yet completed all the clinical trials and the volunteer teams in which it was tested were small. It flows for less than a year, and the vaccine is approved in more than 60 countries worldwide (including India), and since May 5, more than 20 million people have received at least one dose of the vaccine. However, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are still active. The two-dose vaccine Sputnik V showed a 91.4 percent effect on clinical trials, but according to actual data, only 97.6 percent are effective against COVID-19.

About Sputnik Light

Russia has now released a single-dose vaccine called Sputnik Light. Like its previous partner, Sputnik Light was also developed by the Russian Ministry of Health, the Gamaleya National Research Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology, and the Russia Direct Investment Fund (RDIF). Registered and approved for use.

Sputnik V is a two-dose injection made by recombinant adenovirus 26 (Ad26) and adenovirus 5 (Ad5) (common viruses that cause colds). The first dose (Ad26) is the main vaccine and the second (Ad5) is an auxiliary shot. The Sputnik Light vaccine is made with Ad26, which is the first component of the Sputnik V.

  • The reconstructed vaccine uses certain components of the virus. Because they are made up of only fragments of the virus, they lead to a very strong immune response to vital parts of the virus. They can be given to anyone and to people with weakened immune systems and long-term health problems. The only downside to this vaccine, however, is that you may need booster shots to continue providing protection against infections.

  • At 28 days after vaccination, the Sputnik Light vaccine was 79.4 percent effective against the virus. According to a statement from RDIF, the effectiveness rate is based on the details of the Russian vaccine program, which started on 5 December 2020 and ended on April 15, 2021. However, there is no clarity about the problems of SARS-CoV-2 that have been shown to be effective against them, as several mutations have emerged.

  • After the Johnson and Johnson vaccines, this is only the second vaccine that has shown the highest efficacy compared to a single-dose vaccine. The J&J vaccine has a 66.9 percent effect compared to the symptomatic, moderate, and severe SARS-CoV-2 infections compared to Sputnik Light.

  • At the time of Phase I and II clinical trials, the study focused only on Russian people who did not receive a second dose. The Phase III clinical trials, according to the RDIF statement, involved 7,000 people and were conducted in various countries including Russia, the United Arab Emirates, and Ghana.

  • While the short-term results from Phase III are expected later this month, the results of Phase I / II vaccine trials are as follows:

  • People who have been infected with the virus in the past show a 40-fold anti-Igg antibody, 10 days after vaccination.

  • The vaccine had no side effects.

  • It produces IgG special antibodies in 96.9 percent of individuals within 28 days after vaccination.

  • The SARS-CoV-2 antibody is produced in 91.67 percent of the studies 28 days after vaccination.

  • All vaccinated volunteers developed an immune response to SARS-SV-CoV-2 protein 10 days after vaccination.

Price, storage of Sputnik Light

The vaccine is easy to store at temperatures ranging from two to eight degrees Celsius. It is also expected to cost less than $ 10. This one policy allows a large number of people to be drugged.

Alexander Ginsburg, director of the Gamaleya National Research Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology, said, "Sputnik Light will help prevent the spread of coronavirus through rapid vaccination of many people, as well as support high levels of protection against those infected in the past."

CNBC-TV18 quoted Kirill Dmitriev, chief executive officer of RDIF, as saying: “Since Sputnik Light is similar to the original dose of Sputnik V, we believe that once-shot drug will be heavily registered in most Sputnik V registered countries. ”

Ginsburg added: "Sputnik Light provides a solid value for initial vaccination and regeneration, and increases efficiency when taken in combination with other vaccines."

Although it can act as a stand-alone vaccine, Sputnik Light can also be used as a stimulant for other vaccines. The experiments were performed in conjunction with the AstraZeneca vaccine, reports the Hindustan Times.

Sputnik Light makes a fun photography bundle with other goals. We try AstraZeneca, but it can be used with others. It could be an effective shot to improve some of the goals of all genetic mutations, according to further tests, Dmitriev said.

The two-dose vaccine Sputnik V will be Russia's main vaccine. Currently, eight million people are fully vaccinated, while Sputnik Light is shooting once and will be shipped to a global partner.

Sputnik V and India

The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) approved Sputnik V in April after a successful bridge test by Dr. Reddy Laboratories. Russia will develop the vaccine and Dr. Reddy will sell the vaccine in India. The first batch of 1.5 lakh doses of the vaccine has already arrived in Hyderabad, and a new batch (with an identical amount of vaccines) is expected in a few days. RDIF signed a contract with Dr. Reddy's to market and distribute 250 million doses, reported The Hindu, which translates into vaccine doses for 125 million people.

RDIF has tied five Indian vaccine manufacturers to produce over 850 million doses of the Sputnik V vaccine. Including Dr. Reddy, other drug manufacturers include Gland Pharma, Hetero Pharma, Stellis Bio, and Virchow Biotech.

Dmitriev also said that India, South Korea, and China are among the ten countries that will produce Sputnik Light.

"We have partnerships with more than 20 producers in ten countries and they will make both versions of the vaccine," said Dmitriev.

Russia's animal vaccine

No one is left in the vaccination. In April, Russia announced that it had also developed and registered a COVID-19 vaccine for animals. It said this is an important step in disrupting the virus' mutation, and mass production of this vaccine also began that month. The vaccine is called Carnival-Cov and has been tested on dogs, cats, mink, foxes, and other animals since October. Researchers said it was effective in all subjects tested.
